To address revenue losses and improve access to water and sanitation, we worked with eThekwini’s Water and Sanitation Department to develop a decision-support tool that models the impact of different tariff schemes. Built in Excel, the tool allows officials to compare and fine-tune water tariffs using real data, helping them balance affordability with cost recovery. By giving officials a clearer picture of how tariff changes affect both revenue and residents, the tool is helping eThekwini build a more transparent, equitable, and financially resilient water system.
